Western Tanager
"Early Spring" is reproduced from an original watercolor painting and is printed on a framable A7 (5" x 7") card, which is provided with a metallic pearlized lilac colored envelope. The Western Tanager is a medium-sized American songbird that is now classified in the Cardinal family. It gets its scarlet head feathers from a rare pigment called rhodoxanthin. Unable to make this substance in their bodies, they most likely obtain it from the insects in their diet.
